A Turkey Shortage for Thanksgiving?

turkeyOn February 10th, the Lord told us something a bit puzzling. He told us that there would be a turkey shortage for Thanksgiving. Sometimes I just scratch my head over the stuff that the Lord shows us. The Middle East seems headed toward nuclear armageddon. Virulent strains of Islam are killing Christians in horrific atrocities. Gay rights activists and progressive media outlets are launching public attacks intended to shame into silence all those who support the idea that marriage is for one man and one woman. The Supreme Court will soon issue a ruling which will either continue to allow states to decide the issue of gay marriage, or they will follow the path of Roe V. Wade and make something up out of whole cloth. These are days of incredible consequence on so many fronts, and yet the Lord is speaking to us about turkeys for Thanksgiving.

It actually is not as odd as it sounds, when you get right down to it. Even as the Lord told us about the turkeys, he said it is a result of a war that is going on for the hearts of people. He told us that people do not have thankful hearts. Isn’t it funny that we celebrate Thanksgiving, yet each year it becomes more evident that people really are not all that thankful? Even among those who are grateful for what they have, many no longer know whom to thank. This lack of thankfulness comes at a cost. Thanksgiving has become a holiday for hypocrites who gather to give thanks, and yet do not. This hypocrisy has left an opening for Satan’s minions to launch an attack.

If you have been following the news in recent weeks, you have seen the beginning of the attack. You know that the bird flu has made sudden inroads in the midwest, in of all places, turkey farms. I just read an Associated Press article that states,

A bird flu outbreak that has puzzled scientists spread to three more Midwest turkey farms, bringing the number of farms infected to 23 and raising the death toll to more than 1.2 million birds killed by the disease or by authorities scrambling to contain it. (See full article HERE).

What seemed very odd on February 10th now comes into clear focus. A bird flu outbreak on turkey farms, an outbreak that is puzzling scientists, is decimating flocks in the midwest and has already cost the lives of over a million birds. While at this point I would suspect that this isn’t enough dead turkeys to threaten our Thanksgiving turkey supply, it is a significant start to something that could become epidemic among turkey farms. If that happens, there will no doubt be a turkey shortage for Thanksgiving.

I’m certainly not writing this so that readers in the United States begin to horde turkeys, or rush out to the store to get their Butterball brand birds before the November holiday draws near. I am writing this as an intercessory alert. When the Lord shows us a problem, he usually shows us a solution. That solution is his intercessory people.

The enemies of light intend to spread their darkness by taking advantage of a gap that now exists between our land and the grace and protection we need over our food supply. Those enemies, the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places, have released a disease intended to ravage turkey flocks across the United States, and to spread economic ruin and fear among those who make their living providing turkeys to the United States populace. The shift in spiritual climate in the United States, in this case the lack of truly thankful hearts even on a holiday dedicated to thankfulness, has created an opening—a gap through which the wicked ones can inject their evil designs. That is the reason this outbreak is puzzling scientists. It has spiritual roots. They will not be able to handle it unless they get our assistance.

The wicked ones will succeed with their evil intent unless there are intercessors who are willing to step into the gap, who are willing to grab the censers of intercessory authority and petition, and then stand between the plague and the rest of the turkey farms to prevent the spread of disease and destruction. That is the reason the Lord spoke to us on February 10th. He was preparing this intercessory call in order to foil Satan’s evil intent.

But we can’t just pray for turkeys. They are only a symptom of the problem. Our true problem is spiritual. Our nation is being infected by a deadly disease: the lack of thankfulness. As we lift up prayers on behalf of the birds, let’s also ask the Lord for the spiritual reformation we so desperately need as a nation. Perhaps if we do, we will not only have enough turkeys for thanksgiving, but those who are eating those turkeys might do so with truly thankful hearts.

Hold On To Your Plates

platesIn a visionary experience recently, the Lord showed Dawn a large number of plates. Some were breaking. Some were colliding. Some were melting. Some were rotating a little. Some were not doing anything. Then she heard, “There is going to be a major shift in some plates. Hold on to your plate really tight. Don’t let it move.”

After this, she saw many, many plates that no one was holding. She also saw one plate on to which someone was holding tightly.

Of course, you know that this vision isn’t about dinnerware. This vision is about plate tectonics and our intercessory responsibility to bring protection to the tectonic plate each of us inhabits. While this might sound like a tall order, it is well within the realms of authority that Jesus has given to his Church. He has given us the keys of Kingdom authority. Whatever we bind on earth is also bound in heaven. That means that heaven backs up our intercessory decree with its power. Earthquakes are a part of the “whatever” that Jesus spoke about. We have authority to bind them.

There is some disagreement among the various schools of science, but most recognize fifteen basic tectonic plates divided into two categories (major and minor). Some scientists believe their are seven major plates and eight minor, while others see eight major and seven minor. There are also tertiary plates, sometimes called micro plates, that are still being discovered. Depending on your source, you will find that they have discovered somewhere between forty and sixty of those. That adds up to a lot of plates, and helps us understand that our particular plate, our particular area of intercessory responsibility, might not be as large as we might first think.

In any case, this vision contains a challenge. Many of us don’t think that we live in earthquake zones, so we don’t think about interceding against earthquakes. Those of you who do live in earthquake zones often pray diligently, and must continue to pray in order to hold down your plate. In view of the fact that Dawn was told about a major shift in the plates, it is probably important that we all spend some time exercising intercessory authority over the plates under our own feet, as well as adding our prayers to those who live in earthquake prone areas.

Even in seismologically stable South Florida, we have learned to pray against earthquakes. As long time readers of this blog know, our congregation holds special prayer meetings at the beginning of every hurricane season to pray against destructive winds. Of course, since we are already establishing hedges against storms, and since we are flatlanders, we also make certain that those hedges protect us against storm surge and tsunamis. One year the Lord spoke to us about asteroids/meteors, and so we added threats from above to our intercession. Then it didn’t seem right to be covering every direction but below our feet, so we started to cover everything below, including sinkholes and earthquakes. In order to avoid mission creep and dilute our intercession, we haven’t spent a lot of time on earthquakes or sinkholes at our hurricane prayer meetings. However, commensurate to the risk, we are probably spending just about the right amount of time.

The Lord has given this vision as an encouragement for all of us to take authority over the plate under our feet. He has also given it as a warning that we should expect a major shift. Our job is to make certain that any shift does not bring destruction to our area of influence.

Even if earthquakes are not a major concern in our geographical area, it is important that we recognize the times in which we live, and begin to take authority over the unforeseen. I do not believe that it needs to become a major focus in our intercession, simply because most of us have more presenting issues upon which to focus. But I do believe that we need to nail our plates down like never before. In higher risk areas, this will become a much more major area of focus. In lower risk areas, it will not take up as much intercessory time. But no matter our risk, I believe we have been given a directive. I suspect that we would be wise to heed it.

Have a blessed, happy, and unshakeable Christmas!

Another Historic Hurricane Season

RecordBreakerFor the ninth year in a row, Florida has not been struck by a hurricane. This is the longest stretch that Florida has not been hit by a hurricane—by four years—since records were first reliably kept in 1851. Florida is not the only state with good fortune. The United States is enjoying the longest stretch of time since the Civil War without a major hurricane making landfall.

While the hurricane season is not officially over until November 30th, it feels like it is time for God’s praying people to take a victory lap.

If you have followed this blog for long, and have read the posts on intercessory authority, you know that God’s people have incredible authority when they wield the keys of the Kingdom. We only need to pick up those keys and use them. This hurricane season, and the records that continue to be broken by such peaceful seasons, is further evidence that God’s people are beginning to understand their intercessory authority.

If it were up to me, and very often it really is up to us, Florida would never be hit by another hurricane. To that end, we have our prayer warriors and our protecting hedges in place throughout the hurricane season. We have been reinforcing those hedges through intercessory prayer every year since 1999. It is no coincidence that just as we, and many other intercessors, have begun to understand and apply our authority over the hurricane season, that the seasons began to diminish in intensity. Each and every year we gain more understanding and authority, and each year for the last nine, the storms keep turning away. This is either an amazing coincidence, or it is incredible evidence of the authority the Lord has granted his Church. I believe, without any doubt, it is because of the authority his Church is learning to wield.

Ken Kaye, a weather reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, summarized the record breaking 2014 hurricane season in an article he wrote on November 21 (read the full article HERE). Here are some quotes from Ken’s article:

Because the state on average is struck by a hurricane once every five years, it’s “astounding that Florida has gone so long without a hit,” said Dan Kottlowski, lead hurricane forecaster for AccuWeather.com.

Since 2005, 61 hurricanes have bypassed Florida, the last being this year’s Hurricane Gonzalo, said Jim Lushine, a retired forecaster and tropical expert. “That’s the third-longest streak of missed hurricane strikes in the past 100 years,” he said.

In addition, the season presented some mysteries . . . the Atlantic basin is supposedly entrenched in a period where hurricanes form frequently and more intensely, yet this year’s overall tropical energy was about two-thirds normal . . .

El Niño, initially predicted to emerge by the heart of the season, was a no-show. Yet the wind shear over the Atlantic basin was remarkably strong and eerily similar to El Niño conditions.

Still, he said, the atmosphere is complex and “we just don’t fully understand what’s going on out there in the tropics.”

That last quote is my favorite. One almost has to feel sorry for those trying to understand what is happening when they are unable to factor in the supernatural. How can a scientist factor prayer into any equation? It is a difficult proposition for them.

My goal is to become so good at praying against hurricanes, that we confound the scientists even more fully. Almost by definition, that is what we are saying anytime we call forth supernatural response into this natural realm. The supernatural will always confound those who focus only on the natural world.

I’m already watching next season closely. Several years ago the Lord spoke to me in a way that made me believe that we may have to counter a specific threat in the 2015 hurricane season. As a result, I will be even more alert for next season, and praying that at its end, we will have extended the number of years since Florida’s last hurricane strike to ten.

I believe we have an incredible authority to stop almost any storm when we are engaged in the intercessory authority of God. However, I do have one caveat: I also know about cleansing judgments. The Lord sometimes uses storms as discipline when we stray from his purposes. You can read more about this topic in my post entitled Cleansing Hurricanes (see that post HERE). The Lord hasn’t spoken to me, as far as I know, about the next cycle of cleansing storms. I personally hope there isn’t another cycle of such storms, but I know how rebellious we can be, and I also know that cleansing hurricanes are an important tool in the hands of a loving Father who wishes to call his children to repentance.

We can speak more about such things in future years. For now, we can celebrate. The year of our Lord, two thousand and fourteen, has been a record breaking year for God’s people. That fact is worth a bit of joyous celebration.

Whatever You Bind on Earth

IreneCoverLast week Wednesday was the fifteenth anniversary of the day Hurricane Irene devastated South Florida with a surprise strike as a category four hurricane—oh wait, that is what was supposed to happen. Instead, because the Lord spoke to a group of his people, we knew about it a year in advance, so it wasn’t a surprise to us. In addition, we also knew the storm’s name, where it was going to hit, that the National Hurricane Center would drop the ball and not issue hurricane warnings for our area, and we knew it would be a category four storm unless God’s people in our county picked up the invitation to oppose it in united prayer. Because God spoke to his people, and because we responded, we were able to set an ambush for Satan. Hurricane Irene was barely a hurricane when it hit South Florida. It hit by surprise, as the Lord had shown us, but instead of thousands dying in an unexpected monster storm, God’s Kingdom authority was validated. Since then, many have taken up the mantle of faith and authority over the elements. This is an anniversary worth celebrating.

Often, when I would speak with the late Bob Jones, one of my prophetic mentors, he would tell me that we needed to get the word out about what God has done to build faith for Kingdom authority in South Florida. I finally listened. Just on time for the fifteenth anniversary of Irene, I have published the story that started us on the path to understanding (and to calmer hurricane seasons). It is called Whatever You Bind On Earth: Authority to Stop Hurricanes. It is, first and foremost, an invitation to use the Keys of Kingdom Authority. It is also a historical record of how God warned about Hurricane Irene, and it is incontrovertible evidence that God still speaks today. The first copies of the book actually arrived on October 15th, the exact day of the fifteenth anniversary of Hurricane Irene’s visit to South Florida.

Here is what the back cover of the book says:

On October 1, 1999, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, aired an interview with a pastor who claimed God had spoken to his congregation about Hurricane Irene, a storm that had not yet formed. The pastor explained where the storm would hit, that it would hit by surprise, and that God had invited his people to pray so that it would not devastate South Florida. You can still see that interview at HurricaneIrene.com. Hurricane Irene hit South Florida by surprise two weeks after the interview ran. It hit where the pastor said it would hit. This book recounts how God prepared a people to stand in the gap for South Florida, and invites you to take your place using the keys of authority that Jesus granted to his Church. You will learn how to stand in the gap for your community, and you will be inspired to seek the Lord and his voice at an even higher level.

Here is what I wrote in the preface of the book:

On October 1, 1999, WPTV, the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, aired a report on a church in Coral Springs, Florida, which had predicted that a hurricane named Irene would strike southeast Florida by surprise.

That interview, broadcast twelve days before the storm that would become Hurricane Irene had even formed, has become eloquent testimony for the veracity of everything contained in this book.

You can read this book without watching the interview, available at the link below. However, if you watch the video, you will want to continue reading this book.

The video is evidence that God still speaks.

Here is the video:

The book is available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle ebook format: Amazon Link

If you decide to read the book, please post a review at the Amazon site. We need to get the word about our authority out. This book is also great for unbelievers as a witness to the living God, and for those who do not believe God still speaks, since it demonstrates that he does.

The Earth is Groaning

digitalearthI have a vivid and not particularly pleasant memory from my childhood. My family had been attending a family reunion on a hot summer day at a great uncle’s property several hours drive from our home. These family reunions were always a lot of fun, and for most of the day I enjoyed the festivities, but by early evening I was sicker than the proverbial dog. A flu bug, or more likely, a touch of food poisoning from a salad gone bad in the afternoon heat, brought a miserable end to an enjoyable day. I remember the long drive home. I was sitting in the back seat of the family car feeling absolutely miserable. I needed relief from the misery, and I discovered one thing that did help. If I groaned softly, it took a bit of the pressure off. I actually felt slightly better. Unfortunately for me, I was not alone, and I soon found out that the rest of my family didn’t enjoy listening to my pressure relief valve. Though they certainly felt compassion for me, one of them reminded me that groaning wasn’t going to make me feel better. I was too sick to argue, but if I could have worked up the energy I would have announced, that yes, groaning was making me feel better.

The Lord spoke to us recently about the earth’s pressure relief valve, its groaning. He indicated that we needed to think about the earth’s groans in a bit more literal fashion than was our wont. The passage to which he was referring in this discussion is Romans 8:22, and it speaks about the entirety of creation groaning. It says, “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time” (NIV).  When the Lord spoke to us about this, he narrowed our focus from the entirety of creation down to just our planet. He wanted us to think about the earth, and he wanted us to know that it, too, is groaning.

When I have read Romans 8:22 in the past, I have speculated about what Paul meant in this passage. The apostle Paul wrote about the entire universe being subjected to frustration and groaning. As I have grappled to understand this passage, I have envisioned an impatient groaning as a kind of universal background noise. I never really credited inanimate objects with groaning, rather I would think about the created beings. I would think of the senseless waste and slaughter that takes place in the animal world, and how animals who were created to fill a peaceful role must now kill and be killed in order for species to survive. I can imagine the groaning of the feral female cat in our neighborhood as she loses kitten after kitten to predators, or the groaning of a duck hen being trailed by the ever-shrinking number of ducklings. I can also imagine that, at some core level of being, the predators who must stalk, crush, and kill to survive, must groan over this change to their basic purpose and design.

While I can imagine these things accounting for the groaning mentioned in Romans 8, that is not how the Lord presented it. He didn’t anthropomorphize the earth, that is, he did not give it a groaning human personality, nor did he point to the animal creation. Instead, he showed us that the groaning is a physical manifestation of the planet’s subjection to decay. He directed our attention to the earthquakes, the tsunamis, the mudslides, and the ferocious storms. He pointed to the many different ways that natural disasters manifest, and he showed us that these are the groans of the earth. These are its pressure relief valve. He wanted us to think in terms of the earth groaning whenever we see these natural disasters manifest.

This change in focus helps me understand the dynamics of our time even more fully. The planet itself has been subject to frustration and decay. This physically impacts the planet and its atmosphere in such a negative way that pressure must be released. It must groan. When it does, we call that groaning a natural disaster.

This is a bit of a perspective change on my part, but in another way, it is not. In the Romans passage mentioned above, Paul also added that the creation has been groaning “as in the pains of childbirth.” This is imagery we understand because Jesus used it. When he referred to the end of the Jewish age in Matthew 24, he described the disastrous things that would occur as the birth pangs of the church age. In that same way, Paul reveals that the groans of the earth are the birth pangs for the age to come. This is familiar to us.

In addition, since the tempo of the groans are compared to the pains of childbirth, we can understand what an increase in the tempo of the earth’s groans means. We know that painful contractions increase in intensity and frequency as a birth is about to happen. That means that we can expect to witness an increase in the frequency and intensity of these groans as the day of creation’s liberation draws near. We are literally witnessing the birthing of the new heaven and the new earth. While that will not release celebration over each new disaster, it will help us understand what is happening.

I also believe we can help mitigate the negative impact of these contractions if we are alert to their timing. In that way, we can act as a sort of anesthesiologist. In the same way a deft anesthesiologist’s intervention makes the labor more manageable without hindering the delivery, I believe our active intervention through intercession can help alleviate the pain of these groaning events. We do that by standing in the gap for those in harms way, and by using our authority to mitigate intensity of the contractions in population centers.

The earth is groaning. We will see more evidence of that in the days ahead. If we keep our ears on the ground, we can hear it. If we turn our ears heavenward, we can help ease the negative impacts. The Lord is giving us eyes to see, and ears to hear. Let us use the information he is revealing for his glory, and for his purposes.
