A Turkey Shortage for Thanksgiving?

turkeyOn February 10th, the Lord told us something a bit puzzling. He told us that there would be a turkey shortage for Thanksgiving. Sometimes I just scratch my head over the stuff that the Lord shows us. The Middle East seems headed toward nuclear armageddon. Virulent strains of Islam are killing Christians in horrific atrocities. Gay rights activists and progressive media outlets are launching public attacks intended to shame into silence all those who support the idea that marriage is for one man and one woman. The Supreme Court will soon issue a ruling which will either continue to allow states to decide the issue of gay marriage, or they will follow the path of Roe V. Wade and make something up out of whole cloth. These are days of incredible consequence on so many fronts, and yet the Lord is speaking to us about turkeys for Thanksgiving.

It actually is not as odd as it sounds, when you get right down to it. Even as the Lord told us about the turkeys, he said it is a result of a war that is going on for the hearts of people. He told us that people do not have thankful hearts. Isn’t it funny that we celebrate Thanksgiving, yet each year it becomes more evident that people really are not all that thankful? Even among those who are grateful for what they have, many no longer know whom to thank. This lack of thankfulness comes at a cost. Thanksgiving has become a holiday for hypocrites who gather to give thanks, and yet do not. This hypocrisy has left an opening for Satan’s minions to launch an attack.

If you have been following the news in recent weeks, you have seen the beginning of the attack. You know that the bird flu has made sudden inroads in the midwest, in of all places, turkey farms. I just read an Associated Press article that states,

A bird flu outbreak that has puzzled scientists spread to three more Midwest turkey farms, bringing the number of farms infected to 23 and raising the death toll to more than 1.2 million birds killed by the disease or by authorities scrambling to contain it. (See full article HERE).

What seemed very odd on February 10th now comes into clear focus. A bird flu outbreak on turkey farms, an outbreak that is puzzling scientists, is decimating flocks in the midwest and has already cost the lives of over a million birds. While at this point I would suspect that this isn’t enough dead turkeys to threaten our Thanksgiving turkey supply, it is a significant start to something that could become epidemic among turkey farms. If that happens, there will no doubt be a turkey shortage for Thanksgiving.

I’m certainly not writing this so that readers in the United States begin to horde turkeys, or rush out to the store to get their Butterball brand birds before the November holiday draws near. I am writing this as an intercessory alert. When the Lord shows us a problem, he usually shows us a solution. That solution is his intercessory people.

The enemies of light intend to spread their darkness by taking advantage of a gap that now exists between our land and the grace and protection we need over our food supply. Those enemies, the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places, have released a disease intended to ravage turkey flocks across the United States, and to spread economic ruin and fear among those who make their living providing turkeys to the United States populace. The shift in spiritual climate in the United States, in this case the lack of truly thankful hearts even on a holiday dedicated to thankfulness, has created an opening—a gap through which the wicked ones can inject their evil designs. That is the reason this outbreak is puzzling scientists. It has spiritual roots. They will not be able to handle it unless they get our assistance.

The wicked ones will succeed with their evil intent unless there are intercessors who are willing to step into the gap, who are willing to grab the censers of intercessory authority and petition, and then stand between the plague and the rest of the turkey farms to prevent the spread of disease and destruction. That is the reason the Lord spoke to us on February 10th. He was preparing this intercessory call in order to foil Satan’s evil intent.

But we can’t just pray for turkeys. They are only a symptom of the problem. Our true problem is spiritual. Our nation is being infected by a deadly disease: the lack of thankfulness. As we lift up prayers on behalf of the birds, let’s also ask the Lord for the spiritual reformation we so desperately need as a nation. Perhaps if we do, we will not only have enough turkeys for thanksgiving, but those who are eating those turkeys might do so with truly thankful hearts.

It’s Called Seer Ease

Ceres300Have you noticed the sign in the heavens? The dwarf planet Ceres (pronounced seer-eez) has captivated scientists because of two bright lights shining from its surface. The NASA community, and those who watch the heavens, are abuzz over the lights and what they mean. The prophetic community should be just as intrigued.

The picture at left was taken by the Dawn spacecraft on February 25th. That spacecraft is just about to complete its 900 million mile, seven-and-a-half year journey to Ceres this week. It is scheduled to enter Ceres’ orbit this Friday, March 6th. You will notice the two bright lights that appear near the center of the photograph. Those lights are causing the stir. At present, no one knows what they are. There is much speculation at this point, but until the Dawn spacecraft gets close enough to take high resolution images, and to perform other scientific tests, all NASA is able to do is speculate as it waits impatiently for more data. At this point NASA is officially “puzzled.”

The fact that Ceres is causing a stir as the Dawn Mission nears its conclusion is rather appealing to our congregation. We have been watching the Dawn Mission since mid-2007. In fact, I launched this blog at that time, and linked the start of this blog to the Dawn Mission. I have preserved that short post from this blog’s pre-Wordpress days HERE. The Lord so directed our attention to the beginning of the Dawn Mission, that our media team even attended the launch of the spacecraft in 2007. Since then, I have followed its mission reports as it has provided scientists with much valued information about our solar system.

It was only recently, as I was looking up information on Ceres, that I came across the pronunciation guide that I have highlighted in the title. It is pronounced seer-eez. Of course, I knew how to pronounce Ceres from having heard it pronounced. But until I saw the pronunciation guide, it did not occur to me that is sounded like Seer Ease. That odd bit of information has drawn my attention even more closely to what the Lord might be saying.

According to 1 Samuel 9:9, a seer is a prophet. Our congregation, New Dawn Community Church, is a seer congregation. We are part of a ministry stream that majors in seer revelation. I believe this coincidence is actually a part of the message in the heavens. As the prophetic gifts have been restored to the Church, the Church has been ill-at-ease with them. Wouldn’t it be nice if Ceres was a heavenly sign that the prophetic gifts were about to attain wider acceptance in the Church? Or that the seers were about to hit the easy button (another way of pronouncing eez) and step into higher levels of revelation and grace for ministry? Stranger things have happened throughout Church history. God releases unexpected light in key places, and then the Church begins to understand his truth more fully.

Whether that is part of the meaning of this sign or not, I believe we are witnessing some sort of sign in the heavens. The Lord has placed the heavenly bodies in the sky to mark signs and seasons, days and years (see Genesis 1:14). That means that the Lord has placed Ceres, a dwarf planet that we did not even know about until one hundred fifty years ago, and could not see clearly until last week, as a sign for our time. When he created the world, he was well aware of the fact that the Dawn Mission would approach Ceres at this time in earth history. He also knew that the sign would be so unexpected, and so puzzling, that NASA would have no immediate answer for it. I suspect that as the Dawn spacecraft gets closer to Ceres, they will be able to figure out if the lights are a reflection from water or minerals, or ice volcanoes, or something even more spectacular. But in the meantime, I believe the Lord has gotten our attention. I believe that is his purpose in this process.

While we await the scientific explanation, I can offer a biblical meaning. Back in 2007, at the inception of the Dawn Mission, the Lord showed us that the mission was tied to Isaiah 60:1-3 (NIV):

Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

When you realize that there is no way we could have known about this strange light phenomenon seven years ago when the Lord linked this passage about God’s light and glory to the Dawn mission, you begin to understand that this sign in the heavens is most encouraging.

Super Bowl Visions and Dreams

footballSo, a guy that had a dream encounter with Jesus at the age of fourteen, throws an interception to a guy who had a vision that he was going to make a big play. If this type of thing happens in future Super Bowl games, we will eventually be calling it the Super Vision Bowl rather than the Super Bowl.

Even though I would have preferred that another Christian quarterback would have been facing the Patriots this evening (you know, the discount double-check guy), I was happy that another Christian gentleman was getting a chance to increase his stature, and thus increase his influence. Who knew that a lowly butler was going to intervene and turn it all upside down? Oh, it wasn’t a butler, it was Malcolm Butler. And in a post game interview he stated that he had a vision that showed him he would make a big play. He said he was blessed, He pointed to heaven to give glory to God. And he told his interviewer that he could not explain it.

When such revelatory themes are in play, I like to sit back and check if God might be saying something. When I do that in this case, I like the fact that the Patriots won for thematic reasons. If God is sending a message through the outcome of a game, I want the Patriots to win. Period. I believe it is time for spiritual patriots to win. I believe God has communicated that in other forms, and the Super Bowl would be an obvious emphasis of that message.

However, I don’t assume there is a message in every Super Bowl. But when dreams of Jesus that lead to young man’s salvation, and visions of big plays are openly on display, I have to think about it. Might there be a message?

If I was looking for a message, I would remember the most well-known biblical butler. That is the one that Joseph met in prison. That butler had a revelatory encounter also. Joseph told him that Pharaoh would lift up his head in three days. That is exactly what happened (see Genesis 40). The butler’s position was restored, and he returned to his position at Pharaoh’s side.

Perhaps there is a message, and perhaps it is as obvious as that. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see the heads of the true spiritual patriots lifted up in three days? It is time for resurrection power to come forth after three long days in the tomb. It is just about time for those who have been seeking to bring this country back to truth to see God move on their behalf. It is just about time for God’s people to step out of the darkness of defeat into the light of revival fire.

I, honestly, was not excited about a Patriot’s win, until I heard Malcolm Butler’s words. Then I sensed that God was up to something. I don’t pretend this short post contains the fullness of the intended meaning. But perhaps it is time to lift up our heads, for our redemption is drawing near.

The Cuban Deep Freeze Thaws

19449596_sThe Lord plans that Cuba be open. He plans that it prospers economically. Most importantly, he plans that an amazing revival sweep across that island nation and beyond to the world. When we understand this, we can easily see that President Barack Obama’s moves yesterday to normalize relationship with Cuba fit into the Lord’s plans.

At this time, there is much ink being spilled, both pro and con, over our president’s actions. I cannot begin to assess the benefit or detriments that his moves will have on the United States. I can say that his actions fit firmly into what the Lord has shown us about Cuba. Whether his actions flow in accord with the permissive will of God, or whether they are the Lord’s express intention for this time, remain to be seen. However, since the Lord works out all things according to his will, this move on our president’s part will help Cuba even further on the path toward its revival destiny.

For more information about what the Lord has shown us about Cuba, you can read my previous posts HERE, HERE, and HERE. If you read those posts, it will help you tune out the howls of outrage directed at our president’s action, as well as also muting the cheers of admiration from his supporters. We want to understand what the Lord is doing when such major shifts in history occur. The pundits and the rest of the press will usually grind their specific political ax over such events. I would rather discern what the Lord is saying.

To that end, I will keep my ear to the ground, and also observe what the Lord is showing to other proven prophetic voices. If he shows me more, I will let you know. In the meantime, we can all respond to the tremors that are shaking history by seeking the Lord for understanding of them.

Another Historic Hurricane Season

RecordBreakerFor the ninth year in a row, Florida has not been struck by a hurricane. This is the longest stretch that Florida has not been hit by a hurricane—by four years—since records were first reliably kept in 1851. Florida is not the only state with good fortune. The United States is enjoying the longest stretch of time since the Civil War without a major hurricane making landfall.

While the hurricane season is not officially over until November 30th, it feels like it is time for God’s praying people to take a victory lap.

If you have followed this blog for long, and have read the posts on intercessory authority, you know that God’s people have incredible authority when they wield the keys of the Kingdom. We only need to pick up those keys and use them. This hurricane season, and the records that continue to be broken by such peaceful seasons, is further evidence that God’s people are beginning to understand their intercessory authority.

If it were up to me, and very often it really is up to us, Florida would never be hit by another hurricane. To that end, we have our prayer warriors and our protecting hedges in place throughout the hurricane season. We have been reinforcing those hedges through intercessory prayer every year since 1999. It is no coincidence that just as we, and many other intercessors, have begun to understand and apply our authority over the hurricane season, that the seasons began to diminish in intensity. Each and every year we gain more understanding and authority, and each year for the last nine, the storms keep turning away. This is either an amazing coincidence, or it is incredible evidence of the authority the Lord has granted his Church. I believe, without any doubt, it is because of the authority his Church is learning to wield.

Ken Kaye, a weather reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, summarized the record breaking 2014 hurricane season in an article he wrote on November 21 (read the full article HERE). Here are some quotes from Ken’s article:

Because the state on average is struck by a hurricane once every five years, it’s “astounding that Florida has gone so long without a hit,” said Dan Kottlowski, lead hurricane forecaster for AccuWeather.com.

Since 2005, 61 hurricanes have bypassed Florida, the last being this year’s Hurricane Gonzalo, said Jim Lushine, a retired forecaster and tropical expert. “That’s the third-longest streak of missed hurricane strikes in the past 100 years,” he said.

In addition, the season presented some mysteries . . . the Atlantic basin is supposedly entrenched in a period where hurricanes form frequently and more intensely, yet this year’s overall tropical energy was about two-thirds normal . . .

El Niño, initially predicted to emerge by the heart of the season, was a no-show. Yet the wind shear over the Atlantic basin was remarkably strong and eerily similar to El Niño conditions.

Still, he said, the atmosphere is complex and “we just don’t fully understand what’s going on out there in the tropics.”

That last quote is my favorite. One almost has to feel sorry for those trying to understand what is happening when they are unable to factor in the supernatural. How can a scientist factor prayer into any equation? It is a difficult proposition for them.

My goal is to become so good at praying against hurricanes, that we confound the scientists even more fully. Almost by definition, that is what we are saying anytime we call forth supernatural response into this natural realm. The supernatural will always confound those who focus only on the natural world.

I’m already watching next season closely. Several years ago the Lord spoke to me in a way that made me believe that we may have to counter a specific threat in the 2015 hurricane season. As a result, I will be even more alert for next season, and praying that at its end, we will have extended the number of years since Florida’s last hurricane strike to ten.

I believe we have an incredible authority to stop almost any storm when we are engaged in the intercessory authority of God. However, I do have one caveat: I also know about cleansing judgments. The Lord sometimes uses storms as discipline when we stray from his purposes. You can read more about this topic in my post entitled Cleansing Hurricanes (see that post HERE). The Lord hasn’t spoken to me, as far as I know, about the next cycle of cleansing storms. I personally hope there isn’t another cycle of such storms, but I know how rebellious we can be, and I also know that cleansing hurricanes are an important tool in the hands of a loving Father who wishes to call his children to repentance.

We can speak more about such things in future years. For now, we can celebrate. The year of our Lord, two thousand and fourteen, has been a record breaking year for God’s people. That fact is worth a bit of joyous celebration.
